Ervin J. Schlabach, 68, of Rossiter, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born June 7, 1944, in Middlefield, Ohio, a son of the late John E. and Emma M. (Miller) Schlabach.

He was the husband of the former Katie Byler. She survives.

Mr. Schlabach enjoyed spending his time with his horses, fishing and his dog, Shorty.

He was a very kind-hearted man with a sense of humor.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Mary Byler and husband Jonas of Troutville, John Schlabach and wife Sarah of Smicksburg, Albert Schlabach and wife Ella of Rossiter and Lester Schlabach and wife Elva of Clymer, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Laura Schlabach of Troutville; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ervin Schlabach, Jr.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Albert Schlabach residence at 1219 Smith Rd., Rossiter, PA 15772.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the same residence.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc, Big Run.

The family would like to thank each and every one for all the help, food and prayers and condolences.
