YOUNG TOWNSHIP — Two were injured in an accident involving a Jefferson County EMS transport van Thursday afternoon in Young Township, Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police reported.

Police said the crash occurred at the intersection of Routes 536 and 36, also known as N. Main Street, Punxsutawney.

The report said at 4:07 p.m., a 2009 Dodge Caravan operated by Andrea J. Verdill, 33, of Punxsutawney, was traveling eastbound on 536 and came to a stop at the stop sign at the road’s intersection with Route 36.

Verdill was attempting to make a left turn onto Route 36 and started to pull out, turning into the path of a 2010 Ford transport van operated by John M. Raniowski, 70, Punxsutawney, which was traveling south on Route 36.

The front of Verdill’s vehicle impacted the driver’s side of the transport van.

Both operators were wearing their seatbelts and sustained minor injuries, police reported.

Both were transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment.

Verdill will be cited under the state vehicle code for failure to abide by traffic control devices, before District Judge Douglas Chambers.
