Emma P. Zimmerman, 98

Emma P. Zimmerman, 98, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at McKinley Health Care Center, Brookville.

She was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Grange, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Maggie P. (Fry) Plyler.

She was married to Walter J. Zimmerman, who preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1978.

Mrs. Zimmerman was employed as a school teacher in the Punxsutawney Area School District, and she was a member of the Progressive Study Club, the NEA and PEO, as well as a life member of the Punxsutawney Historical & Genealogical Society.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney.

Surviving relatives include four sons, Walter J. Zimmerman of State College, R. Eric Zimmerman of St. Paul, Minn., Jon C. Zimmerman of Port Matilda, and William K. Zimmerman of Punxsutawney; a daughter, Patty S. O’Connor of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Alden, William and Clarke Plyler; four sisters, Ruth Young, Nora Lendyok, Orabel Bailey and Mary Todd; and a granddaughter, Sara Zimmerman.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the church with the Rev. Brett Swanson and the Rev. James Pond officiating.

Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
