Emma L. Zimmerman, 98

Emma Lowesa Zimmerman, 98, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

She was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Grange, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Maggie P. (Fry) Plyler.

She was married to Walter J. Zimmerman, who preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1978.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a teacher at the Punxsutawney Area School District.

She was a member of the Progressive Study Club, the NEA and PEO, and a life member of the Punxsutawney Historical Society.

She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in Punxsutawney.

Surviving relatives include four sons, Walter J. Zimmerman of State College, R. Eric Zimmerman of St. Paul, Minn., Jon C. Zimmerman of Port Matilta and William K. Zimmerman of Punxsutawney; a daughter, Patty S. O'Connor of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Alden, William and Clarke Plyler; four sisters, Ruth Young, Nora Lendyok, Orabel Bailey and Mary Todd, and a granddaughter, Sara Zimmerman.

At the family's request, there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery.

Donations in Mrs. Zimmerman's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
