Emma Jane Larimer, 89, Punxsutawney, died Friday, May 25, 2012, at Wellington Heights, Punxsutawney.
She was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Stanton, a daughter of the late Richard and Emma Ruth (Thrush) Shields.
Oct. 25, 1947, she married Lawrence James Larimer, who preceded her in death Oct. 19, 2008.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney.
She was a very active member of Shoregate Methodist Church in Willowick, Ohio, where she was a leader within the church.
Mrs. Larimer was a member of the garden club in Ohio and enjoyed knitting, sewing, needlework, gardening, traveling, cooking, baking and painting.
She worked at the Sylvania plant in Brookville; at a nursery school; as an office manager for an insurance agent; and as a receptionist at a doctorâ€™s office, from where she retired in the early 1980s.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Dona Larimer and husband Robert McBride of Punxsutawney; a son, James E. Larimer and wife Cathy of Sunbury, Ohio; numerous step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Shields, Joseph Shields and Billy Shields; and a granddaughter, Rachel Huber.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Brett Swanson officiating.
Interment will be at St. Johnâ€™s Windy Hill Cemetery, Stanton.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Larimerâ€™s memory to the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney or to the Punxsutawney Garden Club.
