Elizabeth Woods, 86

Elizabeth Woods, 86, Rossiter, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Winslow Township, a daughter of the late Blair W. and Hazel B. (Uplinger) Vandervort.

She was married to Delmont "Smokey" Woods, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Woods worked many years as an LPN. She also worked private duty and was an excellent caregiver and a midwife.

She had many friends and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband, surviving relatives include three sons, Irvin "Dick" Deemer and wife Sandra of Illinois, Blair Deemer and wife Jan of Michigan, and Daniel Deemer of Colorado; three daughters, Mary Lou Rittenhouse and husband John of Rochester Mills, Mona Ann Harriger and husband Randy of Summerville, and Hazel Gaston and husband Joe of Brookville; a step-son, Gary Woods of Texas; a step-daughter, Sandy Martini of Michigan; a brother, Wilbert Vandervort of Indiana; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Irvin R. Deemer Sr.; an infant daughter, Hannah May Deemer; a brother, James Vandervort; and two sisters, Lulu Overman and Dorothy Allshouse.

Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the funeral home with Joseph Buterbaugh officiating.

Interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Rossiter.
