September 26, 2012

Eleanor “Ellie” M. Havrilla, 80, of Punxsu-tawney, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at home.

Eleanor was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Barnesboro, a daughter of the late Francis John and Anna Theresa (Pacharka) Pawhutsky.

On May 14, 1951, at Saint Michael’s Church in Glen Campbell, she married Richard Carl Havrilla. She was a very devoted and loving wife who cared for her husband for many years prior to his death. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2005.

She was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.

Her life was committed to serving Jesus and sharing her faith with others by serving as a Eucharistic minister and lector, attending bible studies and Women’s Aglow, and being very involved in the church.

She was a caring, loving and generous woman who graciously shared her blessings by opening her heart and home, even though her hands and home were already full.

Above all, she put her family first and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed gardening her roses and reading the Bible.

She is survived by seven children, Annette Caldwell and husband Michael of Punxsutawney, David Havrilla and wife Shawnee of Porter, Lisa Matts and husband Edward of Punxsutawney, Rita Jennings and husband Roger of West Mifflin, Frank Havrilla, Daniel Havrilla and wife Heather, and Tina Kuntz and husband Rich all of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Jordan Jennings, Austin Sabatucci, Carter Kuntz, Alexia Matts and Mason Havrilla; two sisters, Dorothy Mason and husband Walter of Bowie, Md, and Margaret Borza of Midlowthian, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Richard Francis Havrilla.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to DuBois Hospice and her caregivers, especially Marie Letito.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. The S.S.C.D. Rosary Alter Society will pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
