Edward D. Battaglia, 95

Edward D. Battaglia, 95, of Brookville, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Jefferson Manor.

He was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Kane, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Gillotti) Battaglia.

May 28, 1938, he married the former Josephine F. Cesario, who preceded him in death Nov. 22, 2004.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was also a member of the Brookville Eagles and the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Battaglia was an entrepreneur. In the 1950s, he and his wife owned the R & J Bar in Pine Creek Township, which later became the R & J Motel.
Later, he and his brother Art owned and operated the City Market, which is located where the new Mike’s Eastside Express is now in Brookville.

In the 1970s, he and his wife then opened Jerry’s Restaurant on Pickering Street.

He enjoyed trout fishing and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was recently honored in the Brookville Mirror for his longevity and accomplishments.

Surviving relatives include four children, Ronald Battaglia and wife Joan, Jerry Battaglia, Mary Jude Trice and Rita Kahle and husband Gary, all of Brookville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Battaglia of Arizona.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Harvey, Charles, Pasqual, Arthur and Paul Battaglia.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Brookville, celebrated by Father William Laska.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Brookville.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Battaglia’s memory to the introduction and education of young people to conservation and nature through the Iron Furnace Chapter of Trout Unlimited, c/o Bill Kodrich, East Reedsburg Road, Clarion, Pa. 16214.
