DuBois wins 11-0, drops Punxsy to losers' bracket

June 27, 2011

DUBOIS — The Punxsy Little League softball All-Stars had just two base runners during an 11-0 loss to DuBois Saturday in a winners' bracket contest in DuBois.

Punxsy (1-1) dropped to the losers' bracket final where it will host Brookville at 6 p.m. tonight.

Brookville defeated St. Marys, 10-7, Sunday afternoon.

DuBois (3-0) is now the king seed in the Southern tier. It will host the Punxsy-Brookville winner at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a chance to advance to the District 10 final against the Northern tier champion.

Punxsy manager Carl Medsger said his team will concentrate on improving at the plate and defensively when it plays its next game today.

"We decided to just try to hit a little harder and be a little sharper in the field," he said.

Both Sam Satterlee and Danielle Bowser had hits for Punxsy, but only Satterlee made it to third base. Punxsy, which did not strike out, struggled to find holes in DuBois' defense, as DuBois' Riley Assalone pitched a complete game two-hitter.

Assalone did not walk a batter.

Alli Ishman threw a complete game for Punxsy, but she allowed 11 runs on nine hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

DuBois led 7-0 after three innings. It scored four times in the first, three times in the third and added two runs during each of the fourth and sixth innings.

Bowser singled in the third inning, but was stranded at second base. Satterlee was left at third after a one-out double during the fourth inning.

Assalone also hit well for DuBois. She was 3-for-4 with a double and four runs. Katie Zameroski and Katelyn Bender added two hits apiece. Zameroski doubled and scored three runs, and Bender tripled with four RBIs.

Macey Hanes added two RBIs.
