DuBois' strong second half takes Punxsy girls' soccer
PUNXSUTAWNEY — After being tied at a goal apiece at intermission, DuBois blistered the Punxsy net for four goals in the first 13 minutes and six during the second period to rout the Punxsy girls' soccer team, 7-1.
The Lady Chucks (1-3) received their lone score of the day in the first half. Emily Horner chipped a shot over the Lady Beavers goalie into the net off a Kara Hollis assist. Punxsy net minder Allison Fye posted 13 saves in goal for the game.
"We couldn't put it together for 80 minutes today," explained Lady Chucks coach Kevin Hughes. "There were some moments of brilliance for us out there but we couldn't focus on doing it in the second half. The team has shown it can play with any team we will face this year."
Coming out of the half, DuBois put together a quick rush on net leading to a shot that hit the cross bar and went back to the same player, who knocked the ball into the goal at 43:20. Two minutes later — off a corner kick — the ball was kicked right in front of the goal and was hit into the right side giving DuBois a 3-1 lead at 45:38.
Five minutes later, the Lady Beavers found the net for a third time in the second half and another tally two minutes afterwards put them well on their way to the 7-1 win.
In a schedule change, Punxsy will next host DuBois Central at 4 p.m. Thursday instead of the original Wednesday date.
