DuBois eliminates Punxsy with 13-2 win

July 7, 2011

DUBOIS — Punxsy's Little League baseball All-Stars were tied 2-2 with DuBois going into the fourth inning of the brackets' final, a rematch from earlier in the tournament, but DuBois scored 11 runs in the final three innings to cruise to a 13-2 win and claim the District 10 southern tier baseball championship.

DuBois starting pitcher Noah Schneider picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing two runs.

Schneider allowed only three hits, struck out six and walked one.

"Schneider really wasn't overpowering, but he spotted the ball really well," Punxsy manager Joe DiPietro said. "He kept our kids off-balance by working the plate, inside and outside."

Schneider was relieved in the fifth inning by Christian Yount, who pitched two innings of relief work, allowing only two hits and striking out four Punxsy batters.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, and each scored two in the second inning.

Punxsy evened the score after DuBois scored its runs in the top of the frame. Leadoff hitter Jacob Tyger reached base on an error and later scored on an RBI single by Josh Smith.

Smith scored Punxsy's second run when Lucas Burkett reached on an error by the shortstop later in the inning.

DuBois' offense was led by Nick Labrasca, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, and Braden Paulinellie, who was 3-for-5 with a double.

Colin Reed was 2-for-4, with a deep solo home run to right field with two outs in the fifth.

With the loss, Punxsy's boys were eliminated from the tournament, and DuBois moves on to play the winner of the District 10 northern tier championship.

Despite the fact that Punxsy was eliminated, manager DiPietro was pleased with his team's effort throughout the tournament.

"It was an enjoyable run," he said. "The kids should be proud of themselves. They beat two really good teams to get where they are, and they lost to an excellent team. That's nothing to be ashamed of."
