Driver killed in accident

YOUNG TOWNSHIP — A two-vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 536 and Route 36, Young Township, took the life of the driver of a pickup truck, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police.

According to reports, a Toyota pickup truck driven by a person not identified as of Spirit press time was traveling east on Route 536 and pulled out into the intersection and struck a tractor-trailer that was traveling south on Route 36, and the driver of the tractor-trailer appeared to swerve to avoid striking the pickup truck, with both vehicles coming to rest on the shoulder by the guardrail on Route 36.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck was killed in the accident and was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital by Jefferson County EMS, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was also transported to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

As of Spirit press time, further details and the names of either driver had not been released.
