Dorothy Miller, 93

July 17, 2012

Dorothy Miller, 93, Punxsutawney, went home to her Lord Monday, July 16, 2012, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

She was born June 4, 1919, in Madera, a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Agnes E. (Brudnock) Kowalcyk.

She was married to Jesse W. Miller, who preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2006.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Church of God, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who adored her family. She had a strong dedication to her Lord.

Always reading her Bible, Mrs. Miller was a guiding light to the residents at AM/PM Personal Care Home and Christ the King Manor.

Throughout her life, you would always find her baking, gardening, planting flowers and canning.

She and her husband Jesse founded Miller Brothers Furniture Store in Hudson, first selling furniture from the basement, then expanding to a 4,400-square-foot facility.

With her and her husband's devotion to work, the business was turned over to their sons in 1984 and continues today.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving relatives include her sons, Jesse Miller and wife Babette of Punxsutawney, Duane Miller and wife Nancy of Punxsutawney, and James Miller and wife Tracy of Rossiter; 10 grandchildren, Pamela Jo Miller-Creighton, Jesse Miller, Jason Miller, Eric Miller, Nathan Miller, Leticia Miller, Garrett Miller, Derek Miller, Ashlynn Miller and Nicholas Barilar; seven great-grandchildren, Easton Renwick, Charlie Grace Renwick, Kathryn Miller, Natalie Miller, Hudson Miller, Harrison Miller and Clara Elizabeth Miller; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Kowalcyk and Dorothy Kowalcyk; and two brothers-in-law, Chuck Merrow and Mervin Winters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Frank, Andy and Ben Kowalcyk; and two sisters, Mary Sollomon and Helen Guilish.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at the First Church of God with Pastor Wayne Anderson and Pastor Greg Tibbs officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Rossiter.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Miller's name to the First Church of God Youth Group or Jefferson County Child Evangelism.
