Doris Irene Dixon, 86, Sykesville, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 5, 1925,in Sykesville, a daughter of the late John B. and Annie (Hughes) Morgan.

April 17, 1941, she married Richard Franklin Dixon, who preceded her in death Nov. 23, 1978.

Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking. She taught her grandchildren how to cook and bake. She loved to spend time with her family, and was also a loyal Pirates fan.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Donald Dixon and wife Mona of Punxsutawney, Dale Dixon and wife Jane of Sykesville, and Terry Dixon and wife Denise of Sykesville; two daughters, Kathy Yohe and husband Cliff of Big Run, and June Valimont of Brockway; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Paul Morgan and Lawrence Morgan; a sister, Ruth Wagaman; and an infant sister, Margaret Morgan.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the funeral home with Pastor Lance Tucker officiating.

Interment will be at Sykesville Cemetery.
