Doris Geraldine (Shick) Hutchins, 87, Indiana, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Communities at Indian Haven Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Allens Mills, a daughter of the late Elmer J. and Ruth (Copen) Shick.

She was married to her husband of 62 years, William B. Hutchins, who preceded her in death in October 2005

Mrs. Hutchins was a loving wife and mother who had worked as a clerk at the former G.C. Murphy’s Co. She was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Indiana.

She was a Meals on Wheels Volunteer and a quilter with the Elizabeth Black Sewing Circle. She was a faithful attendee of “Silver Sneakers” at the YMCA.

Mrs. Hutchins enjoyed quilting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Cindy Long and husband Ron of Indiana, and the Rev. Sue Hutchins of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Elisha and Kimberly (Previte) Long of Indiana, Elizabeth and Dr. Keith Baldwin of Providence, R.I., and SPC Philip and LeĂł (Enos) Long of Clarksville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ella Long of Indiana, and Ethan Long of Clarksville; two brothers, Robert of Punxsutawney, and Arthur Dean and wife Pat of Sharon Center, Ohio; a sister, Naomi Bish and husband Elwood of Hilton Head, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Diane Shick of Punxsutawney, and Cleda Hutchins of Brookville; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer J. Shick; and a sister, Eileen Newcome.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Bence-Mihalcik Funeral Home, Indiana, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at the Trinity United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at the church with the Rev. Sue Hutchins and the Rev. Greg Golden co-officiating.

Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Indiana.

Her family requests memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 398 Church St., Indiana, Pa. 15701.
