Doree H. Long, 86, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Coolspring, Pa., the daughter of the late David R. and Florence (Lingenfelter) Hetrick.
She graduated third in her class from Punxsutawney High School in 1945.
She married John E. (Jack) Long of Punxsutawney on June 18, 1951.
She worked as a legal secretary for Jesse P. Long, Attorney at Law, for 59 years before her retirement.
She was a member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, where she spent one term as church treasurer.
She enjoyed camping, vacationing in Canada and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Even though she worked full time as a secretary, Doree prided herself as a good mother, housekeeper, cook and baker.
She also found time to be a Girl Scout Troop leader and attended all her children's band concerts and sporting events.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Jon Craig Long and wife Peri of Home, Pa.; and one daughter, Holly L. Fenk and husband Christopher of Louisville, Ohio.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Dr. Jamie R. Long of Curwensville, Pa., Lauren Pardee and husband Michael of Rochester Mills, Pa., and Kevin D. Fenk and Erin M. Fenk of Louisville, Ohio.
She has one great-grandchild, Austin M. Pardee of Rochester Mills, Pa.
She has six surviving brothers, Raymond Hetrick of Coolspring, Pa.; Harry Clay Hetrick and wife Marge of Corsica, Pa.; Walter Hetrick and wife Marvette of Akron, N.Y., Eugene Hetrick of Brookville, Fred Hetrick and wife Donna of Harbor Creek, Pa., and Clark Hetrick of Hebron, Ohio.
She also has many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Zelma Simpson; and by four brothers, David, Ronald (Bud), Wayne and Arnold Hetrick.
Friends will be received at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, with the Rev. Alfred H. Kimmel officiating.
Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Ascera Care Hospice, the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
