Don't forget: Major RR crossing project begins Friday night

PUNXSUTAWNEY — State Route 119 at Hampton Avenue/Ridge Avenue/Clark Street will close in Punxsutawney to replace the railroad crossing.

The intersection will close at 6 p.m. Friday night, and it is expected to reopen at noon on Monday.

The railroad crossing replacement is part of the Elk Run Bridge Replacement and Routes 119 and 310 intersection widening project in Jefferson County.

This $3,351,119 bridge replacement and roadway construction project is being completed by Francis J. Palo, Inc., of Clarion.

The project includes the replacement of the bridge carrying Route 119 over Elk Run in Punxsutawney Borough and the construction of left turn lanes on the Route 119 South and Route 310 intersection.

The full project is expected to be completed in September 2013.
