Donald Dee Forrest, 66

Donald Dee Forrest, 66, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Dec. 8, 1945, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Arthur Clinton and Helen Jean (Grube) Forrest.

On Aug. 14, 1965, he married the love of his life, the former Nancy Arlene Vanhorn, who survives.

They met one another on a seesaw at Gobbler’s Knob while attending a FFA and FHA school picnic.

He was a member of the Scotland Avenue Church of God.

Don worked as a truck driver for many years until his blindness forced him to retire.

He had been a driver at Benson’s Trucking, MIF Trucking of Brockway and for Donald Vite.

He enjoyed working, driving trucks and talking about driving trucks.

He loved spending time with his family and his dog Hannah.

He enjoyed working in the garage or around the house with his boys.

He will be remembered as a hard worker, a loyal husband and a wonderful father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include five sons, Thomas Dee Forrest and wife Irene of Clearfield, Jeffrey Lee Forrest and Ann Butler of Punxsutawney, William Michael Forrest and wife Theresa of Desire, Timothy Daniel Forrest and wife Charlene of Brockway, and Joseph Matthew Forrest and wife Wanda of Sykesville; 12 grandchildren, Ashley and Macy Forrest, Kayla Blystone, Gregory, Christopher, Brianna, D.J., Andrew and Jacob Forrest, and Dillon, Taylor and Brylan Conoran; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Arthur Forrest and wife Maxine of Clarion, James Forrest of Indiana, Terry Forrest and wife Robin of Reynoldsville, and Robert Forrest and wife Patricia of Knox Dale.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Mark Pollock.

Memorial donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Association for the Blind; the American Kidney Foundation; or American Diabetes.
