Dollie Elizabeth Smith Barnett, 90

Dollie Elizabeth Smith Barnett, 90, gently passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Twinbrook Medical Center.

Dollie was born April 23, 1923, in Grange, Pa., the daughter of the late Allene B. and Harry J. Smith.

She lived her entire life in the Punxsutawney area until she moved to Erie in 2001.

Dollie was always known as a very “sweet lady” who extended kindness and love to everyone. She will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched over the years.

Besides being a housewife, Dollie worked with her husband in their garage, Barnett’s Auto Repair, in Grange, Pa.

She was a member of St. Jacob’s Church in Grange and attended Greenfield Baptist Church after moving to Erie.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Carl W. Barnett (Joe); an infant daughter, Carol Joan; and a brother, David Smith and wife Martha.

She is survived by two sons, Carl R. Barnett and wife Claire and Thomas G. Barnett and wife Sharon; and one daughter, Judith Firment and husband Edward.

She is also survived by her sister, Jane Reed and husband William of Kinsman, Ohio.

The joy of Dollie’s life was her family, and she will also be sadly missed by her seven grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks for the utmost kindness and wonderful care provided to her by Twinbrook Medical Center staff.

They are especially grateful for the loving care given by the nurses and aides in the Alzheimer’s Unit.

We know that you also loved Dollie and appreciate all you did for her and her family.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie PA 16504 on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Additional calling will be held at the Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Rd., North East, PA 16428 on the morning of Friday, March 14, 2014, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m.

Private family interment will be held at Frostburg United Methodist Church Hopewell Cemetery in Frostburg, Pa.
