DEMOLITION BEGINS

April 13, 2011

Demolition began Wednesday on the former Parente’s Recreation along North Gilpin Street and a two-story, wood-framed house located next door. Both structures were razed to make way for Grace Place, a 24-unit housing complex for moderate-income seniors. The $6.5 million project is being constructed by the Jefferson Area Lutheran Social Ministry and Trek Development at the corner of Pine and Gilpin streets. The two-story portion of the former Grube Hospital that houses the Pine Street Senior Center will also be demolished later this summer. (Photo by Larry McGuire)
