Decker to be named to Punxsy Sports Hall of Fame

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Saturday, Punxsutawney Area High School's Athletic Department will host its Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony at the Punxsutawney Area High School.

In anticipation of the event, The Spirit will feature the biography of one member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2013 each day.

Today's featured athlete is Ed Decker:

Ed Decker is a 1978 graduate and was the first football player in the history of PAHS to set a record of 1,000 yards rushing.

He received an All-State Honorable Mention, was a member of the first-team offense CENPAC & Gazetteland and was a Big 33 Champs nominee. The football team had a 10-0 record that year.

He lettered three times in football and track and once in wrestling.
In track, he was a member of the record-holding 440 and 880 relay teams.

In 2010 and 2011, he competed in the Ohio Bench Press Championships, where he placed second for his weight class and third in raw masters.

He received his master's degree in taxation from the University of Akron and is currently a CPA partner/director in the SS&G firm.
