Deadline to enter Groundhog weekend Woodchuck Whittle Competition is Sunday

January 18, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — A few years back, a Woodchuck Whittle Competition was part of the Groundhog Day festivities here in town, and this year, it is trying to make a comeback!

The Groundhog Club is looking for participants to join the competition, and the deadline is quickly approaching.

The actual competition will take place on Feb. 3 at the Punxsutawney Community Center gymnasium, with set up running from 8 to 9 a.m. and the show taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The actual judging will take place at noon.

But deadline for entries is Sunday, so interested whittlers should scurry on over to www.groundhog.org to sign up.

Space is limited.

There are many different categories, with awards presented in each, as well as the Best of Show and Best Groundhog.

For more information about the categories go to www.groundhog.org or visit The Groundhog Club, 102 West Mahoning St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
