David Walter Snyder, “The Duke,” 76, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at home.

He was born March 22, 1935, in Nescopeck, a son of the late Charles and Bernice (Laycock) Snyder.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 1954, and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. After serving his country for 20 years, he retired as a Master Sergeant.

June 20, 1957, he married the love of his life, Brenda Joyce Jordan, who preceded him in death Oct. 16, 2007.

Mr. Snyder was a private, reserved man. He had previously enjoyed fishing with his wife and hunting. He liked his cats and dogs and enjoyed watching the raccoon family raise their little ones.

He is survived by five children, Jerry Snyder and wife Cindy of Memphis, Tenn., Terry Snyder and wife Leila of Punxsutawney, Mark Snyder of Texas, Brenda Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tammy Trinka and husband Dean of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Casey and Nikki Robinson, Jessie, Terry and Joshua Snyder and Kyle Trinka; two brothers, Roland Snyder and wife Bernice of York, and Dale Snyder and wife Marion of Harrisburg; and a sister, Barbara Snyder of Valpariso, Fla.
There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.
