David G. “Chip” Wonderling, 63

David G. “Chip” Wonderling, 63, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Brookville Hospital.

He was born Nov. 26, 1950, in Brookville, a son of the late Gerald David and Helen (Espy) Wonderling.

On July 9, 1971, he married the former Rosemary Battaglia. She survives.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

“Chip” retired in 2001 after 31 years as a foreman for Brockway Glass.

After retirement, Chip was also the driver for the Laurel Laser & Surgery Center.

He began his service to the public in 1975 as president of the Brookville Cemetery Association, and he was also a member of the Brookville Fire Department for 21 years, as well as a leader of the local Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 983 for 12 years.

A member of the Brookville Borough Council from 1988 to 1992, Mr. Wonderling served as mayor of the borough for 12 years, six of which he also served as vice president of the Northwest Pennsylvania Region of the Pennsylvania State Mayor’s Association.

To his great credit, he was recently honored with the “Pennsylvania Mayor of the Year” award in 2013 and given the Walter Dick Award by the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Michael T. Wonderling and Melissa (Scott) Lewis; five grandchildren, Kara, Cassandra, Jonathan and Ryan Wonderling and Hunter Lewis; and one brother, Robert (Mary Lou) Wonderling, all of Brookville.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Brookville.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Brookville Fire Department, officiated by Pastor Glen Burridge.

His ashes will be interred at Brookville Cemetery.
