Darl Yount, 85

Darl Yount, 85, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.

He was born June 13, 1926, in Ringgold, a son of the late Elwood and Grace (Geist) Yount.

Aug. 27, 1948, he married the former Dorothy G. Rugh, who survives.

He attended the First Church of God.

Mr. Yount worked as a heavy equipment operator for PennDOT for 35 years. He was also a farmer.

He was a member of the John J. Jenks Masonic Lodge and the Punxsutawney Country Club.

Mr. Yount really enjoyed playing golf, walking and hunting.

In addition to his parents and wife, surviving relatives include three children, Sandra Lee Britton and husband Kenneth of Tampa, Fla., Deborah Ann Sloat and husband Jay of Los Angeles, Calif., and Darl “Butch” Yount and wife Cheri of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Sherri Haney, Danette Shohfi and husband Joseph, Rachel Sloat, Shayne Yount and wife Tracy, Corry Yount and wife Alicia, and Trevor Yount and wife Brittney; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Hayden, Colson and Ashlyn Yount; a twin brother, Harold Yount and ife Jean of Cleveland, Ohio, and brother Bill Yount and wife Ruby of Grange; and three sisters, Berthat Dinger and husband Byron of Brookville, Nina Smathers and husband Jacob of Mahaffey, and Louise Vasbinder of Punxsutawney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister; two brothers, Clair and Glenn Yount; and a sister, Norma Burns.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Punxsutawney.

A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11,  2011 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Frostburg.
