Daniel G. Payson, 74

Daniel G. Payson, 74, of Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, in Punxsutawney.

He was born May 18, 1938, in Indiana, a son of the late Charles Sr. and Dorothy Buggy Payson.

Mr. Payson was a graduate of Indiana Area High School and Westmoreland Community College.

He was the former owner of Indiana Auto Supply and True Value Hardware, both of Indiana, and the Punxsutawney Auto Parts.

Most recently, Dan had been employed at NAC Carbon Products, Inc., of Punxsutawney.

He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and a sponsor of the local county sandlot baseball team.

Dan was a life member of the Indiana B.P.O. Elks No. 931 and a member of the Punxsutawney Eagles.

He enjoyed restoring antique trunks and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Surviving relatives include four children, Greg Payson and wife Joanne of Indiana, Susan Grim and husband David of Smicksburg, Cathie Payson and friend Tom Filler of Indiana and Christi Payson and friend Troy Cary of Punxsutawney; three brothers, Patrick Payson and wife Sonja of Fayetteville, N.C., Irving Payson and wife Janet of Nashville, Ind., and John Payson and friend Joan of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jane Luckhart Payson; and two brothers, Gerald and Charles Payson Jr.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church with Fr. William J. Kiel as celebrant.

Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in loving memory of his wife, Nancy Jane Payson, to their Relay for Life team, Nancy and Kadie's "Lucky" Nuts, P.O. Box 404, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
