Daniel Craig Newcome, 74, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born Aug. 25, 1939, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late William and Clara (Beer) Newcome.

He held a master’s degree in education and was a schoolteacher.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel C. Newcome, II and wife Nancy of Mountainside, N.J., and David Newcome of Englewood, Colo.; and by two sisters, Penny Rudesill of Driggs, Idaho, and Joellen Elliott of San Francisco, Calif.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

At the family's request, there will be no public visitation, and services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Frostburg, Pa.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
