Dan ‘The Packer Man’ will don Black & Gold for Make-A-Wish
PUNXSUTAWNEY — So far, SS.C.D. School has raised more than $1,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s annual “Light Up a Child’s Life” campaign, but according to Principal Jessica Newcome, today will “make a big difference.”
The students’ challenge: Convince SS.C.D. employee — and Punxsy’s biggest Green Bay Packers fan — Dan Prutznal to at least appear to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers today.
As Prutznal will surely tell you, his beloved Packers defeated the Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XIV. But today, he will will wear one piece of Steelers attire for every $25 the students raise.
Also, teachers have also agreed to “kiss a pig” for every $50 the students raise during the school’s Christmas program tonight.
Newcome hopes to bring in more money from these two events to add to the total already raised from a few dress down days, a Penny Wars activity and a faculty trivia game.
The students and staff of SS.C.D. School have focused their efforts this December on raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In addition to raising funds, Wednesday afternoon, students teamed up with staff and guests at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center to continue a well-known tradition.
The SS.C.D. choir sang Christmas carols to the residents of Mulberry Square.
For more than 10 years, Mulberry Square has also been very active with raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Make-A-Wish is very important to us,” Administrator Karen Brown said. “It’s a good charity, a very good organization. It gives the children something they wish for.”
Wednesday, the SS.C.D. Christmas concert was broadcast on the radio, as well as an update about how much has been raised for the foundation.
According to Wish Assistant Polly Mills, $13,377.50 has been raised so far.
Mulberry Square contributed $1,314.26 to that total through three different fund-raisers: A hoagie sale, a bake sale and a yard sale.
“We always wish we could raise more, but we are happy with the amount,” Brown said.
The final total will be announced Friday following the Make-A-Wish auction at the Pantall Hotel.
