Cora Ilene Martz, 86

Cora Ilene Martz, 86, of Ringgold, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday evening, April 16, 2014, at the Brookville Hospital.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1928, in New Bethlehem, the daughter of Grant C. and Lillian I. (Schilling) Shaffer.

She was married on Oct. 31, 1947, to Robert V. Martz, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2004.

Cora was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Ringgold.

She helped her husband on the farm milking cows, and she sold Avon.

She belonged to the L C W women’s group of the church and the Red Hat Society of New Bethlehem.

She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Blose of Punxsutawney, Bonnie Shick and husband Carl of Porter, and Christine Snyder and husband Bill of Mayport; one son, Vern Martz and wife Jackie of North Haverhill, N.H.; five grandchildren, Rob Blose, Heather Weaver, Ryan Blose, Levi Martz and Zach Snyder; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nola Samsel of Erie, Willovene Shumaker and husband Cromer of Distant, and Mable McMaster and husband Ron of New Bethlehem; one brother, Cecil Shaffer and wife Marie of Berwick; and a sister-in-law, Jane Shaffer of New Bethlehem.

In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, Ray Shaffer; and a son-in-law, William Blose.

Visitation will held today from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Joan Rousseaux officiating.

Interment will be at the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Ringgold Township, Jefferson County.
