It's the season of giving back to those who help with the education system.

Jeff Kuntz, chairperson of the Community Focus Committee, presented checks to eight individuals, who accepted them on behalf of the organizations they represent.

Checks are distributed through the Punxsutawney Education System several times a year and give money to organizations from which students benefit.

Pictured (from left) are George Wehrle, middle school teacher, who accepted a check for the Tony Parise Scholarship; Paul Murphey, volunteer at the American Red Cross; Jackie Lundy, accepting for the Polly Hallman Scholarship Fund; Kuntz; Susan Wolfe, secretary for the Punxsutawney Area School District, accepting for the Rails to Trails Association; Nancy Pearce, accepting for the Amanda Smilo Scholarship Fund; Ranee Sikora, accepting for The Arc of Jefferson County; Kay Anthony, accepting for the Groundhog Festival; and Robert Cardamone, accepting for Community Action, Inc.
