Colleen Means named club’s Career Woman of the Year
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Career Women’s Club named Colleen Means as its Career Woman of the Year during a dinner Tuesday evening.
Means, who teaches fifth-grade reading and language arts at Punxsutawney Area Middle School, has been a teacher for the past 28 years.
She is also the co-chairperson of the club’s Girl of the Month Committee.
Also, for the past 20 years, Means has been in charge of the group’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic, which is held as part of the Groundhog Festival.
Means said she was very surprised to receive the award, and she is very thankful.
“I feel the Career Women’s Club is very important to the community because it promotes growth in women, and they give back to the community,” she said.
Club President Stacy Volchko said the club usually chooses its annual Career Woman of the Year in June, but this year, Means was on vacation and unavailable to accept the award at that time.
The award is presented to a member who has been with the club for at least five years.
Means was presented the award by last year’s winner, Mary Molinari, who also serves as vice-president of the Career Women’s Club.
