VALIER — A coal truck apparently lost its brakes, causing it to roll onto its side around 11 a.m. Monday at the Route 210 intersection with Route 4025 (Valier Drive), Perry Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Joe Ryan, Summerhill, was traveling north on Route 210, and as he approached the 90-degree curve at the intersection with Valier Drive, his brakes locked up, which caused the truck to roll onto the driver's side and into the guardrail, spilling a portion of its load into an adjacent stream.

Tim Fetterhoff, Perry Township assistant fire chief, said the driver was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital via Jefferson County EMS for treatment of his injuries.

Fetterhoff said the truck was righted by Mohney's and Rebuck's Towing, with Mohney's towing the disabled vehicle from the scene.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company.
