On Friday night, at the Punxsutawney Area High School's Jack LaMarca Stadium, the PAHS Class of 1977 marked the 40th anniversary of a stellar season that included some impressive accomplishments.

The 1977 varsity football team finished its season unbeaten and won the AAA District 9 championship, clinching the Western Conference Championship and Big 33 Gazetteland Trophy, and the 1977 cross country team became the first PAHS interscholastic athletic team ever to win a state championship after completely shutting out their opponents in the 1977 district meet.

Prior to the game, various members of the two teams who were in attendance were recognized.

Punxsy fell to Route 36 rival Brookville 36-0 in the game Friday night. For a full recap, grab a copy of Saturday's edition of The Spirit.
