Clair R. Shaffer, 96

Clair R. Shaffer, 96, DuBois, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at his home.

He was born June 14, 1915, in DuBois, a son of the late Harvey and Martha (Horn) Shaffer.

He was married to Dora (Waite) Shaffer, who preceded him in death Feb. 29, 1980.

Mr. Shaffer was a retired self-employed farmer.

He served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart for his service in World War II.

He was Methodist by faith and a member of the Reynoldsville American Legion and Reynoldsville Eagles. He enjoyed farming and hunting.

Surviving relatives include seven children, the Rev. Raymond Shaffer and wife Janis of DuBois, Sherry Green and husband the Rev. James Green of Reynoldsville, Wanda Trunzo and husband William of Brockway, John Shaffer and wife Mary of Punxsutawney, Bruce Shaffer and wife Marian of Punxsutawney, Brian Shaffer and wife Shannon of DuBois, and Rick Shaffer and wife Brenda of DuBois; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, George and Floyd Shaffer; and three sisters, Sarah Johnston, Gladys Kriner and Mildred Smith.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Mohney Yargar Funeral Chapel, DuBois.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the funeral chapel with F.D. Bryan officiating.

Interment will be at Rockton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Reynoldsville Free Methodist Church, the Sandy Valley Community Church or to the charity of donor’s choice.
