Chucks win one of four, fall to 3-4 on season
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy junior-varsity boys' basketball team allowed a combined 34 points during the two middle quarters during a 53-41 loss to Brookville last Friday at home.
The Chucks (3-4) trailed 12-8 after one quarter when they were outscored 34-23 during the next two quarters.
Hunter Tibbs nailed four three-pointers and had nine points by halftime during a team-best 15-point night. Jesse Venturini had eight of his 13 points by halftime, Garrett Zimmerman added six points, and Ian Miller had five.
Brookville's Austin Burney scored a game-high 18 points, Levi Park added 14, and Tighe Truman contributed 13.
Indiana 51, Punxsy JV boys 32
INDIANA — A 15-5 second quarter helped the Indiana JV boys' basketball team cruise to a 51-32 victory over Punxsy Jan. 5 at home.
Indiana outscored the Chucks during each of the first three quarters, building a 40-21 lead in the process. Both squads scored 11 points during the fourth quarter.
Hunter Tibbs nailed two three-pointers during the fourth quarter and led Punxsy with 11 points. All eight of Garrett Zimmerman's points came during the second half.
Jesse Venturini added six points, Tim Pearce had four points, and the Chucks shot 5-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Leading all scorers was Indiana's Dante Lombordi, who scored nine of his 20 points during his team's 15-point second quarter.
Marion Center 65, Punxsy JV boys 44
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Chucks were outscored 19-8 during both the first and third quarters while losing to Marion Center Dec. 30, 65-44.
Punxsy was behind 30-20 by halftime when the Stingers improved their lead to 49-28 entering the final quarter.
Tim Pearce scored a team-best 14 points. He nailed four three-pointers in the game, including three long balls during the second half alone.
Ian Miller added seven points, Hunter Tibbs tallied six points, and both Garrett Zimmerman and Devin Nicholson had five.
Brody Thompson — who hit the game-winning three-pointer later that day in the varsity matchup — led all scorers with 29 points for Marion Center.
Punxsy JV boys 52, Harmony 30
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy JV Chucks had no trouble taking out Harmony Dec. 22, earning a 52-30 victory at home.
A 21-11 first quarter helped Punxsy take control, and it went up 35-16 by halftime thanks to a 14-5 second quarter.
In all, nine Chucks scored, including two who finished in double figures.
Jesse Venturini scored 12 points, including 10 during the first half, and Ian Miller had 11 points. Miller scored eight during the first two quarters.
Devin Nicholson added nine points, and Hunter Tibbs totaled eight.
Robert Nalley led all Harmony scorers with eight points.
