Chucks use falls and forfeits to thrash Bradford, 84-9

BRADFORD — The Punxsy junior-high wrestling team had no trouble at all during its match Tuesday night in Bradford.

Thanks to eight forfeits and victories in six of the other eight bouts, the Chucks routed the Owls, 84-9.

The Chucks (14-2) led 48-9 with eight weight classes remaining before the match concluded with six forfeits in Punxsy's favor and two no contests.

Registering wins on the mat for Punxsy were Darin James, Matt Burke, Levi Campbell, Logan Rend, Keegan Fischer and Travis Perry. All six won by fall.

The match started with 30-straight points in Punxsy's favor following four falls and a forfeit. James (18-5) pinned Aubrie Smith in 2:06, and Burke (15-6) pinned Jesse Banks in 34 seconds.

A Perry Arrington (26-2) forfeit was sandwiched between falls from Campbell (6-8) and Rend (17-10) before Bradford's first victory.

In the only decision of the match, Dustin Coles of the Owls bested Jeff Bottenhorn (13-13), 6-0.

Two wins by fall from Fischer (19-7) and Perry (20-7) followed. Both came in the first 2 1/2-minutes of the match.

After Austin Covatch (4-22) won by forfeit, the Owls won the final bout of the night. Kyle Langdan pinned Troy Peace (24-5) in 2:14.

Zoie Smith (14-13), Eli Lambiotte (21-6), Andrew Bullers (13-11), Ryan Jones (15-12), Kaleb Young (26-0) and Derek Conrad (10-4) each won by forfeit.

The Chucks will wrestle for the last time this season when they visit DuBois for a 5:30 p.m. start tonight. Punxsy beat DuBois in two of the last three years after the Beavers won the matchup for 30-plus years in a row.
