Chucks finish with 3-2 record at Lewistown Duals

LEWISTOWN — The Punxsy wrestling team had its share of ups and downs at the Lewistown Duals last Saturday, and by the end of the tournament, the Chucks registered a 3-2 record.

Punxsy started out strong by beating Wellsboro, 42-27, and upsetting host school Lewistown, 37-30. What followed were a pair of losses to Altoona, 45-33, and Greensburg Salem, 35-29.

The Chucks then finished strong at the end of the tournament, blowing by Harrisburg, 51-17, thanks to five forfeits.

During the event, both Kody Young and Neko Cappella went undefeated, as both grapplers finished 5-0.

Mostly at 130 pounds, Young pinned four opponents and won once by forfeit. Two falls came in less than a minute, and another occurred within the first two minutes.

Cappella won once by fall, once by a 15-4 major decision and once by 5-2 decision in addition to a pair of forfeits.

Finishing 4-1 for the Chucks were Seth Spack, Nathan McGregor, Joel Bowers and Josh Schuckers.

Two of Spack’s victories were by fall, and one was by a 16-0 technical fall. McGregor pinned three opponents and earned one technical fall, 22-7.

Both Bowers and Schuckers won three times by fall and once by forfeit.

Also registering winning records for Punxsy during the Lewistown Duals were Carl Langley and Josh Neal. Langley went 3-2 while winning a trio of bouts by fall, and Neal pinned three of hits opponents during a 3-2 day.

Also wrestling for Punxsy were Tige Woodson (2-3), Duell Thompson (2-3), Devan Snyder (1-4), Tyler Titus (1-4) and Caesar Maruca (0-4). Woodson had a victory by fall, Thompson won two bouts by fall, and Snyder won a 7-0 decision.

Punxsy’s individual records entering today’s New Oxford tournament are: Bowers, 13-5; Cappella, 19-1; Langley, 8-10; Maruca, 6-12; McGregor, 15-4; Neal, 5-9; Schuckers, 12-7; Snyder, 3-15; Spack, 16-3; Thompson, 10-9; Titus, 3-13; Woodson, 10-9; and Young, 17-1.

The tournament begins at 3:30 p.m. today and concludes Sunday after a 9 a.m. start.
