PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy baseball team scored early and often to climb back to .500 with a 16-1 victory in four innings over DuBois Central Catholic Thursday at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field.

Punxsy (7-7) scored 10 times during the first two innings before it finished off the Cardinals with one run in the third and five in the fourth.

The Chucks snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. DCC fell to 0-10 on the season.

"It was kind of workmanlike," Punxsy manager Mike Dickey said. "We did what we needed to do."

Prior to the game, Dickey told the team that they "have to treat every game from here on out like a playoff game."

"We really want to get focused in on where we want to go, and it's getting down to the nitty gritty," he said. "We're really trying to take one at a time and get ourselves ready for what's coming and try to secure that No. 1 seed."

Punxsy is currently battling Clearfield (8-11) and St. Marys (7-8) for the top seed in the District IX Class AAA playoffs. The Chucks split the season series against the Flying Dutchmen and are 1-0 against the Bisons.

Brodi Lowmaster pitched all four innings for the win. He struggled to the point of walking four batters, but only one DCC base runner scored — Mark Walker, who was walked and scored on a Cody Gulvas single in the third inning.

Lowmaster surrendered five hits and struck out six and also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, a double and a run scored.

Jordan Mesoraco and Garrett Zimmerman each had two hits and an RBI. Mesoraco doubled and scored twice, and Zimmerman scored once.

Joe Pisano walked home a run and ripped a two-run single for three RBIs on the day, and Zak Dickey, Ty Zimmerman, Taylor Neal and Devan Neal scored two times apiece.

The Chucks will travel to Smethport for a noon start Saturday.

Punxsy will conclude the season next week when it hosts Hollidaysburg at 4:15 p.m. Monday, visits Bradford at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, hosts Brookville in a doubleheader at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and visits Curwensville at 4:15 p.m. next Friday.

Punxsy JVs 15, DuBois 4

DUBOIS — The Punxsy junior-varsity baseball team responded to a loss Monday at State College with a 15-4 victory in five innings over DuBois Thursday afternoon.

The Chucks (5-4) scored during every inning — four in the first, three in the second, two in the third and six in the fourth.

Freshman Cory Geer earned the win. Geer, who improved to 3-0 on the season, pitched four innings of four-hit ball. He gave up one run with three walks and five strikeouts.

Tyler Young hit a grand slam during the first inning and finished with three hits and five RBIs. Geer, Michael Klingensmith, Matt Burkett and Lance Neal each managed two hits. Burkett drove in three and doubled, and Neal had an RBI.

DuBois' Justin Sleigh hit a solo home run, and Nick Johnson hit an RBI double.
