PUNXSUTAWNEY — After suffering the first defeat to Brookville in six years earlier this season, the Punxsy boys' golfers prevailed over Brookville to avenge the loss, 178-187 on the Punxsutawney Country Club's front nine.
The Raiders took the first meeting on Aug. 22nd in Brookville by five strokes, 167-172.
The two rivals saw their top golfers tie for the best round. Punxsy's Mike Blose and Brookville's Jack Huggins both shot a 41 for the par-37 course.
Brandon Mancuso recorded the next best round of 44 for the third best outing of the day and the team's biggest highlight by birdie on number five.
"Another solid round by Mike Blose; he's coming around, and Brandon's been improving as well," pointed out Chucks' coach Josh Conrad. "It's good to rack up a few wins as we head into this final stretch."
Eli Thompson and Logan Reed made it four Punxsy (6-3) golfers to place ahead of all but Huggins of Brookville. Thompson posted a 45 with Reed coming just three strokes behind him at 48.
The Raiders had their next three golfers bunched together with Jacob McLaughlin having a 48, while both Tate Canavan and Jordan Tosh had 49.
The two Punxsy Austins completed the teams scorers with Austin Couser finishing wiith a 50 and Austin Milton a 53. Brookville saw Corey Byerly and Owen Clinger have a 51 and 56 respectively.
"The next couple of weeks are going to be busy [Bradford tournament on Saturday, DuBois Tournament on Wednesday]," explained Conrad. "We still need to be more consistent on our own course, and start taking advantage of the 8th hole. Varsity was five over on No. 8 —that number needs to be lower. Other than that, they did a good job of damage control and it's a good win against a great team."
Punxsy will head back to the links today with a 3:30 p.m. match at West Shamokin.View more articles in:
