Charlotte S. Himes, 94, Coolspring, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Worthville, a daughter of the late Quay and Eliza (Straitiff) Doverspike.

Ms. Himes was a school teacher for 43 years at Punxsutawney Middle School, where she taught reading and English.

She was a member of the Coolspring United Methodist Church.

Ms. Himes loved and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Connie and Leslie, her boys, Tanner and Brodi, and her beloved cats.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing the organ and piano, crafts, making porcelain dolls, canning, do-it-yourself projects and working outdoors.

Surviving relatives include her loving granddaughter and caregiver, Connie M. Sprague of Coolspring; her “adopted” granddaughter and caregiver, Leslie J. Kruger of Coolspring; “The Boys,” Tanner Lowmaster of Valier and Brodi Lowmaster of Ringgold; and Cheryl and Doug Lowmaster of Ringgold; a daughter, Charlotte Ruth Sprague of Reynoldsville; and a son, Clyde Himes of Indianapolis, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gregory Stiver officiating.

Interment will be at Olive Cemetery, Oliveburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gateway Humane Society in Falls Creek, for her love of animals, or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Indiana County.
