An engine fire destroyed a vehicle that was parked along Route 36 across from Pine Tree Road in Bell Township at 11:32 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Punxsutawney Central Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire that engulfed the engine compartment of a red Toyota, and the smoke from it could be seen up to a mile away.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they doused the flames.

The vehicle was severely damaged.

Punxsutawney Fire Department Chief Josh Wachob escorted the driver to Wachob’s own vehicle while the fire was extinguished to get him out of the cold.

Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police were assisted at the scene by Jefferson County EMS and Walker's Towing.

There were no injuries.
