Catherine L. “Cathy” (Gernat) Wesdock, 80

Catherine L. “Cathy” (Gernat) Wesdock, 80, Punxsutawney, passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 5, 2012.

She was born Jan. 6, 1932, in DeLancey, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Gaydos) Gernat.

She graduated from Punxsutawney Area High in 1949.

Nov. 11, 1961, she married Thomas G. Wesdock, who preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2005.

Mrs. Wesdock was an active member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney, as well as an officer and member of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge No. 62; a member of the Ladies' Guild; and a former member of the Rosary Altar Society.

She was a former employee of Punxsutawney National Bank.

Mrs. Wesdock was a devoted mother and grandmother. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her children, attending her grandchildren’s programs and sporting events, and volunteering at the many social events at Ss. Peter & Paul Church.

She will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Philip G. Wesdock and wife Sandra of Spring Hill, Fla., Susan H. Lainey and husband Jay of Punxsutawney, Julee M. Lindberg and husband Bryan of North Irwin, John M. Wesdock and wife Shannon of Potomac Falls, Va., Maryanne Wesdock of Pittsburgh, and Fr. Thomas J. Wesdock of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Adrianne Wesdock, Christopher Wesdock, Christian Lindberg, Skylar Lindberg, Ethan Lainey, Nadia Wesdock and Frank Wesdock; and four sisters, Margaret Dubensky of Pittsburgh, Sister Thomasine Gernat of Uniontown, Martha Rumbosky of Punxsutawney, and Donna Damson of San Diego, Calif.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Basil Gernat and John “Jack” Gernat; and a sister, Mary Gernat.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A Parastas Service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the funeral home, and a Panachida Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at the funeral home.

The Funeral Divine Liturgy will be concelebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church by Fr. Eugene Yackanich, administrator of the Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh; Fr. Thomas J. Wesdock; Fr. Simeon Sibenik; Fr. Robert Yetsko; and Fr. William Lascelles.

Interment will be at Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions, in memory of Catherine L. Wesdock, may be made to the Ss. Cyril & Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary, 3605 Perrysville Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15214.
