Carole M. Hipps, 71, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at home.

She was born May 6, 1940, in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Presley J. and Carolyn (DeHaas) Strunk.

June 2, 1962, she married William G. Hipps, who preceded her in death Dec. 23, 2002.

Mrs. Hipps was a graduate of Curwensville High School.

Surviving relatives include four daughters, Tonja Vance of Treasure Lake, Laurie Stankewich of Punxsutawney, Leslie Battaglia and husband Ron of Reynoldsville, and Jaime Sherry and husband Dave of Punxsutawney; a sister, Eleanor Young and husband Richard of Union City; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Vance, Ashley Vance, Billy Vance, Derek Malburg, Kyle Malburg, Haley Stankewich, Toni Battaglia, Braxton Sherry and Brandt Sherry; special caregivers Louise Fye, Marcy Gearhart, Renee Runco, Dottie Sivanich, Kayla Blystone, Helen Dussault and Kim Laska.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Strunk and Larry Strunk.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, with Pastor Christopher Golembiowski officiating.

Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park in Clearfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hipps’ memory to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team Carole’s Crusaders.
