Career Women’s Club names Stacy Volchko its Woman of the Year
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Career Women’s Club named Stacy A. Volchko as its 2011-12 Woman of the Year during the group’s Rose Breakfast June 2 at the Elks.
She is the Career Women’s Club’s current president.
In the introduction for the club’s new Woman of the Year, Volchko was described as always striving “to do the right thing in both her personal and professional life; and she demonstrated her leadership abilities early on.”
That included an incident when, at age four, she persuaded her two-year-old sister to perform a certain scientific experiment, convincing her that it would not hurt at all.
She also confirmed her love of animals at this same time in her life when she decided to “free the hamsters” by placing them in her baby carriage to take them for a walk. What she didn’t know, however, was that there was a hole in the bottom of the carriage, which allowed the precious darlings into escape to the wilds of the heating vents, never to be seen again.
Volchko — daughter of Joe and Ruth Defelice, and Debbie Allenbaugh — is a graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and was selected as a CWC Girl of the Month during her senior year. It was this honor that lead her to join the Career Women’s Club.
In addition to serving as president, Volchko has worked on many projects for the club, from attracting new members to volunteering to handle any task that comes up, without a moment hesitation.
With her strong work ethic and determination, she paid her way through college by working at Joe’s Drive In. As a result, she graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with an associate’s degree in computers and office information systems.
In her spare time, Volchko enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Scott, for almost 19 years, and they have two wonderful children, Joshua and Brock.
