Burton L. Mottern Sr.

Burton L. Mottern Sr., 83, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at his home.

He was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Dora, a son of the late Irvin M. and Dora (Geist) Mottern.

Mr. Mottern was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Air Force.

March 30, 1949, he married Betty (Vallies) Mottern, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mr. Mottern was a member of the Punxsutawney Eagles and the United Mine Workers Union.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Irvin L. Mottern and wife Carol of Dora, and Burton L. Mottern Jr. and wife Lori of Punxsutawney; two sisters, Melda Anderson of Waverly, Ohio, and Mildred Ginople of Nazareth; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, Robert and Kenneth Mottern; an infant daughter, Nora Jean Mottern; two brothers, Darrell and Byron Mottern; two sisters, Isabel Swonger and Louetta Mottern; and his step-mother; Janet Kennedy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Alt officiating.

Interment will follow at Dora Cemetery.
