Brookville council hires Weaver as part-time police officer

BROOKVILLE — Almost a year after he was denied a full-time job as a police officer in Punxsy, Sean Weaver has a job in Brookville.

After calling an executive session to discuss personnel matters Tuesday, Brookville Borough Council hired Weaver as a part-time police officer for the Brookville Borough Police Department.

Weaver worked as a Pennsylvania State Police officer from 1991 to 2010, after which he retired and worked for Punxsy police on a part-time basis.
Weaver, who, along with fellow probationary officer Pat Renwick, was not offered full-time employment at the end of his probationary period in August 2010 by Punxsutawney Borough Council, which then hired Renwick a month later.

Weaver appealed council’s decision before the Punxsutawney Civil Service Commission in October 2010. But during the commission’s Nov. 5, 2010, meeting, solicitor Jeff Lundy said in his opinion that the commission did not have jurisdiction regarding a probationary officer’s challenge to the actions of council in not making his appointment permanent.
At the Jan. 10, 2011, council meeting, Weaver spoke about a lawsuit he filed against the Punxsy borough for not hiring him full time.

According to the Jan. 10 meeting minutes, Weaver said it was requested that he have his attorney, Jeffrey S. DuBois, draft an agreement to bring a fair, equitable and amicable end to the lawsuit that he had filed against the borough, relative to his release at the end of his probationary period.

At the Punxsy council’s Feb. 15 meeting, Mayor James T. Wehrle asked council to vote on Weaver’s proposal.

But Timothy Morris, who was at that time the borough’s solicitor, said council could not vote on the matter due to pending litigation.

Wehrle said he was told something different.

Punxsy council took no action on the agreement.
