BREAKING NEWS: West Shamokin forfeits Friday football game due to lack of players

November 5, 2010

Duell Thompson carries the ball in last Friday's game against Brookville. The Chucks will sit at home Friday night due to a forfeit by West Shamokin.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — According to PAHS Principal David London, West Shamokin has forfeited its football game — scheduled for Friday in Rural Valley — against the Punxsy Chucks due to lack of players.

London said Thursday afternoon, West Shamokin Athletic Director Tom McClain notified him and Punxsy Athletic Director John Knopick that the Wolves are unable to field enough eligible players for the game.

London said the forfeit moves Punxsy's record to 10-0, and playoff points will be awarded to Punxsy for the win.

"The forfeit will not have a negative effect on our opportunity to play for the District IX title," London said in a statement Thursday.
