Trailing 4-2 with one out and two opposing runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth, Punxsy’s baseball team made a defensive stand in the opening round of the PIAA State Playoffs when left fielder Dakotah Byers hit cut-off man John Matthews, who relayed the ball to catcher Garrett Zimmerman (pictured, left) to tag out Hopewell’s Shane Martin (right) and complete a double play. The Chucks rode the momentum to battle back and score three in the top of the sixth, and Punxsy held on for a 5-4 win, catapulting itself into the next round.
