PUNXSUTAWNEY— In an "anything you can do, I can do better" example, the boys' golf team doesn't want to be overlooked by the girls' golf team, as both are having extraordinary seasons.
When DuBois Central Catholic came to town, the Chucks made sure that they represented the Punxsy golf program well, defeating the Cardinals 181-193.
All season long, there has been a different golfer who has stepped up to lead the team to victory in each match.
On Monday, it was Brandon Blose's turn.
Blose shot a course-low 42 on the front-nine, par-37 course.
"[Brandon] Blose really came through today. He's been mid-40s most of the season, so it's good to see him continue to contribute," head coach
Josh Conrad said. "That's been the story all season long. Someone has a good round and comes through for us."
Blose's round was great, but the other Chucks weren't slouches, either.
In fact, all Punxsy golfers were within nine strokes of each other.
Brandon Mancuso and Austin Milton each shot a plus-10 46 on the day.
Eli Thompson was just one shot off the action, shooting a 47 at Punxsy's home course.
Nick Voris continues to impress with his plus-12 48, while Logan Reed finished the Chucks' afternoon, shooting a 53.
The Cardinals were stiff competition, having two guys shoot under 50, and three guys shoot under 55.
Ben Trinkley led the way for DuBois Central Catholic, shooting a 44.
Danny Sayers placed second for the Cardinals, shooting a plus-10 46.
Luke Weis lead the second-tier of golfers for the Cardinals, shooting a 51.
Following close behind were Alex Micknis (52) and Austin Cogley (53).
Last but not least, Mike Misiewicz shot a 71 to finish off the scoring for the Chucks.
While the varsity players may get most of the attention, Conrad said that he's impressed with those who aren't seeing varsity action, as well.
"The kids who aren't playing varsity have a been showing lots of improvement, as well," Conrad said.
The Chucks will return to action on Wednesday.
Both the Chucks and Lady Chucks will have a chance to show their respective dominance, as both squads will travel to DuBois to take part in the DuBois Invitational.View more articles in:
