Blair Irvin Askey, 87

Blair Irvin Askey, 87, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in DuBois, a son of the late Clyde and Blanche (Johnston) Askey.

March 28, 1944, in Penn Township, he married Helen M. (Ritz) Askey, who preceded him in death July 21, 1988.

Mr. Askey was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Central Europe in the 326th Glider Infantry.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and liked to fish and hunt. He loved tending to the farm and his animals.

Surviving relatives include two children, Daniel Askey and wife Eileen of Rochester, N.Y., and Patricia Mazzarella and husband Joe of Perry, N.Y.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Twyla Bloom of DuBois.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Floyd Askey; and a sister, Lillian Lee.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, DuBois.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. John White officiating.

Interment will be at Morningside Cemetery.
